Oh.

Hi I almost forgot about this blog. Haha. Well I just got a phone call yesterday from South East CDC (?). I'm one of the winners for "I love you Mom and Dad" letter writing competition and I have to go for a prize presentation next Saturday at Northlight School. I hardly win things so I was quite surprised when I got the call. :P Hehe. Good thing is both my parents can attend it. My mom called the organiser herself to confirm with them number of people going. Haha.

Ok so recently.. if you've been following my Facebook or talked to me in person, you'll notice I'm crazy over a new guy (from a new group)! This time it's not a younger one okay. :P

Woot! I'm going crazy. My list has about 30 guys already. >< Right. I should get back to work. :D

Prelims in 3 days.. I am.. blogging?!

I want to watch 'Jump!'! Is it so much to ask for? :3 Okay it's not cheap but MOM!! Please let me go! And anyway only my sister is willing to go with me. Am I so deprived? T_T No lah.. Just that my sister only wants us two to go. Haha. xD I'm sorry Ying.. :P

I have prepared 2 testimonials and Mrs Lua is yet to give me my 3rd. In case you all are wondering, "OH MY GOSH! Lixin is so kiasu! Where did she get the testimonials from?", I got them from Mrs Mak (CCA teacher) and Mr Nordon (TKD instructor). :D I have also gotten ready my Best Section award certificate. Recently I read an article on how to present yourself at interviews and not only that, it also talks about how to snag that position/place in the job/school of your choice. The thing that stood out for me was to not be politically correct - just be myself! I raised this issue to my Dad. He said yeah, just say what you have to offer to the school.. and of course why you want to opt for the particular course/school/job in the first place. One of the things that worries me, especially since after I've gone through with the first stage of DPA is.. are they not calling me up because I applied to 3 schools? Did they think I was just desperate to get into any school? This is really scaring me, the more I think about it. Well for now of course my priorities are prelims first, DPA second (I will change that if I get a call). Jasmine and I are recently high-strung creatures (haha) because every single call will send us into spasms. I am ranting, I know. And the only person who will find this interesting is probably.. Jasmine. Yeah. Speaking of her, her birthday is coming! :D

Natalie has gotten my influenze-like illness. Ms Koh wants it. I have ALMOST recovered from it. Seems like it's become a part of my sickness history. I mean, it's caused me to get 7 days MC. How often do you get that? By the way, I am alive and kicking now so stop with the get-well-soons. Hehe. xD No I'm kidding. I like that people are caring for me, I really do. :D Just saying that I am now officially back in school! Like I told Wen Han, I have so much to catch up on. Prelims in 3 days! And I am.. blogging!
On a lighter note, Natasha made me laugh today. :) She came up to be in class and starting laughing. She showed me a piece of paper that said "sexually attractive". "Lixin, your badge says you're spunky! (My SP badge lah..) Do you know what it means to be spunky?" She pointed to the words on the paper and started laughing even harder, almost hysterical, even. Haha. xD Thanks for making my day!

Anxiety rising, prelims are nearing..!

Shannon just told me he got into SAJC and Jit Xin got into TJC. Wah.. I'm getting really nervous for my DPA! They might call me up any time these days, any of the three schools! What if I have to go for interviews for all three? What if none call me up at all? O_O *pray pray pray pray pray* Argh!

Another wedding this weekend. Last week there was one. I need to go dress shopping! But I'm saving up for an iPod Nano or camera. 9 more weeks (I've calculated)! By then I should be able to have enough for both, or at least one. :D

Updating again soon! Off for a jog.

Ouch.

Thursday, July 9, 2009 @ 4:49:00 PM
Another sigh of relief.

Chinese orals are over!

This is a follow-up from yesterday's post.

In case any of you are curious as to what I put exactly for DPA, here's what it is:

First choice: NP
Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management (N72)

Second choice: SP
Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management (S55)

Third choice: TP
Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management (T19)

I put in the same reasons for all three. Haha. Here goes!

I chose ____ as my first/second/third choice because:
this is the perfect course for me as I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I'd be able to benefit from meeting new people from in and out of the resort. During the holidays, I helped out in my family business by distributing flyers and had a desk job, sorting clients’ information and learning about customer service. I've also worked in a factory, dealing with customers and learning to work with my colleagues. In fact, I’ve joined an entrepreneurship challenge and a Presentation Skills and Etiquette workshop before. Tourism is very intriguing to me and I'd love to explore all I can about it.

Yup, that's about right. Keeping my fingers crossed! :D

EDIT: I got in for NP's R.E.D Camp this November! :D
R.E.D stands for Your Roadmap to Explore and Discover NP!

XINYI GOT IN TOO!! Hope we'll get into the same tribe (no joke!) xD

What is R.E.D about? (Extract from here)

Is poly life suitable for me? What diploma courses can I choose from? What kinda CCAs can I join?

We know these (and more!) questions are probably racing through your minds right now. Chillax. We’ve got the answers for you at RED Camp on 17-19 November 2009!
What’s happening? RED Camp will give you the opportunity to experience the many courses (over 40!) and CCAs (more than 100!) that Ngee Ann Poly has to offer.

Best of all, it’s a fab time to make new friends. With an expected turnout of 1,800 students from over 140 schools, just imagine how many friends you’ll be adding to your FaceBook by the end of RED Camp!

Sweet! How much is it? Everything is… FREE! Yup, we’re throwing in free lunch and dinner, plus free shuttle service from Clementi, Hougang, Tampines and Woodlands. And, because we wanna show you more love, we’ve even lined up goodie bags and great lucky draw prizes. Oh, not forgetting our Hop Nite dance party, where you can dazzle us with your hot moves!

There’s so much stuff going on that we can’t even list it all out here. (You’ve gotta check out the What’s On section for full details!)

Who can sign up? It’s open to ALL graduating O-level students.

SO GO AND SIGN UP NOW!! Even if you don't want to go to poly, or even NP, just go for fun!! And it's after O Levels!! Best of all, it's free!!

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! =)

Wednesday, July 8, 2009 @ 10:48:00 PM
My life feels just right. For now.

I just went to NP experience. I am at peace even though Chinese orals are tomorrow, I have F&N tomorrow and I'm getting ear piercings this Saturday.. Okay forget the last one. Wanna know why I am at peace?

It's because I just submitted my DPA (Direct Poly Admission) application. Without Jasmine, I couldn't have done it, honestly. She gave me faith ("CHIONG AH!") and convinced me to not worry so much, just do it! All I can do now is brush up on my studies and do my prelims properly. It's that much I can do for myself. DPA is kept aside for now. A huge load is finally lifted off my shoulders. All I can do now is keep my fingers crossed.

THANK YOU JAS!!! :D
I will treat you. Hehe. xD

I feel a sudden calmness wash over me and it's like I can do anything. Perhaps I should be ready for more large-scale things in the future. Am I ready? Time will tell.

For now, tata folks! :D

Well, the holidays had to end somehow..

We've played, we've slacked, we've worked hard. We've had the June "holidays", and now it's over for good. So far the H1N1 cases in Singapore are at an all-time high of 400+ people and I don't think anyone's going to let their guards down. When we return to school, it's also the return of no assemblies, return of no mass gatherings (though I still hope Career Seminar is on) and the last one which I dread - return of thermometers. I almost got the shock of my life when I thought I couldn't find it (obviously I don't want to waste money on another one again) but then I rummaged through my school bag and found it there in the end. Phew. I wonder if the thermometers will really manage to catch any H1N1 flu carriers or victims in the school. If so, everyone will flock to the lucky guy and try to catch the virus for sure. Imagine the look on the teachers' face! Bet they'll also want to do it but have to restrict us from doing so instead. xD

Yesterday I went out with TKD seniors - Alvin, Eldric (who just came back from Switzerland and the main reason we went out was to catch up with him and one another), Jeremy and Jeremy's gf Julia. It was the first time I saw Jeremy in a long time and Julia, well it was the first time I met her. :D I exchanged numbers with her and added her as a friend on FB. She's really a very nice person! (: Next week we're going for Swiss food! I think Eldric wants to compare Singapore's Swiss food with Swiss food from its place of origin. Oh btw, he said people in Switzerland had Chinese fondue! Wonder if anyone can guess what it's known as here. Haha! xD

P/S. I hope no one took that H1N1 comment seriously. :O

I did the handwriting test analysis that I found out from Jasmine's blog.

Many of the details here really reflect who I truly am, and my thinking and how I handle situations.

The fact that they keep referring to me as Phoon reminds me of Jas and Nat. Lol. xD

Official Handwriting Analysis - Personality Report

This personality profile is based on the writing of Phoon Lixin created at the website: Handwriting Wizard.com - Handwriting University's Official automated personality report creator based on standardized basic personality traits as taught through Handwriting University's Certification Level Program.
My results:

Phoon is moderately outgoing. Her emotions are stirred by sympathy and heart rendering stories. In fact, she can be kind, friendly, affectionate and considerate of others. She has the ability to put herself into the other person's shoes.

Phoon will be somewhat moody, with highs and lows. Sometimes she will be happy, the next day she might be sad. She has the unique ability to get along equally well with what psychology calls introverts and extroverts. This is because she is in between. Psychology calls Phoon an ambivert. She understands the needs of both types. Although they get along, she will not tolerate anyone that is too "far out." She doesn't sway too far one way or the other.

When convincing her to buy a product or an idea, a heart rendering story could mean a great deal to her. She puts herself in the same situation as the person in the story, yet she will not buy anything that seems overly impractical or illogical. Phoon is an expressive person. She outwardly shows her emotions. She may even show traces of tears when hearing a sad story.

Phoon is a "middle-of-the-roader," politically as well as logically. She weighs both sides of an issue, sits on the fence, and then will decide when she finally has to. She basically doesn't relate to any far out ideas and usually won't go to the extreme on any issue.

People that write their letters in an average height and average size are moderate in their ability to interact socially. According to the data input, Phoon doesn't write too large or too small, indicating a balanced ability to be social and interact with others.

Phoon is secretive. She has secrets which she does not wish to share with others. She intentionally conceals things about herself. She has a private side that she intends to keep that way, especially concerning certain events in her past.

Phoon can be defiant. She sometimes has the attitude that if someone doesn't like it the way she is doing it, then they can just "go to hell!" This trait may reveal itself in a rebellious nature that is always ready to resist forces which she thinks are infringing upon her freedom of action.
In reference to Phoon's mental abilities, she has a very investigating and creating mind. She investigates projects rapidly because she is curious about many things. She gets involved in many projects that seem good at the beginning, but she soon must slow down and look at all the angles. She probably gets too many things going at once. When Phoon slows down, then she becomes more creative than before. Since it takes time to be creative, she must slow down to do it. She then decides what projects she has time to finish. Thus she finishes at a slower pace than when she started the project.

She has the best of two kinds of minds. One is the quick investigating mind. The other is the creative mind. Her mind thinks quick and rapidly in the investigative mode. She can learn quicker, investigate more, and think faster. Phoon can then switch into her low gear. When she is in the slower mode, she can be creative, remember longer and stack facts in a logical manner. She is more logical this way and can climb mental mountains with a much better grip.

Phoon's true self-image is unreasonably low. Someone once told Phoon that she wasn't a great and beautiful person, and she believed them. Phoon also has a fear that she might fail if she takes large risks. Therefore she resists setting her goals too high, risking failure. She doesn't have the internal confidence that frees her to take risks and chance failure. Phoon is capable of accomplishing much more than she is presently achieving. All this relates to her self-esteem. Phoon's self-concept is artificially low. Phoon will stay in a bad situation much too long... why? Because she is afraid that if she makes a change, it might get worse. It is hard for Phoon to plan too far into the future. She kind of takes things on a day to day basis. She may tell you her dreams but she is living in today, with a fear of making a change. No matter how loud she speaks, look at her actions. This is perhaps the biggest single barrier to happiness people not believing in and loving themselves. Phoon is an example of someone living with a low self-image, because their innate self-confidence was broken.

One way Phoon punishes herself is self directed sarcasm. She is a very sarcastic person. Often this sarcasm and "sharp tongued" behavior is directed at herself.

Phoon has a tendency to put things off, Phoon procrastinates. She sometimes pretends to be busy, so she will not have to do whatever she is putting off. She is often late to appointments or deadlines. This usually leads to a great amount of effort at the last minute to meet the deadline. Procrastination is an important factor as it relates to her output on the job or at school. Remember, Phoon will put it off until later. Procrastination is easily overcome through a simple stroke adjustment in the handwriting.

Phoon has a healthy imagination and displays a fair amount of trust. She lets new people into her circle of friends. She uses her imagination to understand new ideas, things, and people.

-

To sum all this up, I guess I am basically:

1) moderately outgoing
2) fair (not as in skin tone-wise)
3) a procrastinator
4) afraid of making mistakes
5) manic depressive
6) a healthy imaginator
7) sarcastic
8) defiant
9) imaginative

Ta.

This is a really really interesting video the lecturers let us watch during the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge two days ago. No matter how many times I watched this, it still manages to send chills down my spine. And no, it's not a horror movie.

My mom is pissed.

Not with me, but with a conwoman. Stupid cheater, trying to cheat my mom's money. Can't blame her for being angry, obviously. SHE'S SMARTER THAN YOU! I think it went something like this, though I can't know for sure because my mom was talking in phrases since she was fuming, but I'll try my best:

Stupid Conwoman: "I am calling from the Supreme Court. You did not attend a trial on the 13th of April when we sent you an order so now you will receive another order. On top of that, you have to meet us up and we will tell you what to do in order to avoid going to jail." (I'm guessing having to pay a 'fine' but my mom didn't elaborate.)

Mom: "..."

SC: "Also, you need to give me your I/C number for identification purposes."

Mom: "If you are from the Supreme Court, aren't you supposed to know my I/C number already?"

SC: "..." (I don't know exactly what happened here, but my mom said the woman was angry.)

Mom: "Oh, and which department are you from?"

SC: "..."

Naturally, my mom reported this to the police and the police said she wasn't the only one who reported about this. Hope they catch this filthy bunch of people soon.

And that's all for today. :D

Videos + today + reflections

These videos had me totally zoned out. They are ab-so-lute-ly cool. Where do people come up with these stuff anyway? Which reminds me, 4 months ago during the December holidays my family drove past a flash mob at Orchard Road, which is something like the Frozen Grand Central video featured below. Watch them! :D

-----------------------------------------------------

Today was a surprisingly relaxing day for a Monday. During Lit, my group presentation went smoothly (with little bumps here and there) but Shirin and Aaron improvised. Nice! Then during English the lesson was quiet as we did our essays. I chose "Marriage" but didn't know what to write so ended up with only two paragraphs. =x Sorry Mrs Ezekiel! Then it was followed by Chinese. I felt confident I could follow the lesson because Xu Lao Shi was going through oral and then for some reason the lesson ventured into how Chinese is an important subject because we would do business in China in the future, even though many in the class didn't agree on that. It started to rain outside I think, which made my day. Coupled by the fact that Xu Lao Shi was standing right in front of me, I felt compelled to do Chinese because she kept stressing on the fact that China is an increasingly advanced country and her voice made an impact on my dejected soul which was reluctant to do Chinese before. She held up my pencilcase, not to show the class what it looked like, but as an example to how many things are made in China (not that my pencilcase is), but as an example, like I said. I was surprised that I took Chinese for granted before and never noticed its value. She also emphasised on the two most powerful countries in the world - China, as mentioned, and America. I made the connection as she wrote down what I was thinking too - I am currently inclined in both of those languages.. so why did I take for granted my knowledge of both before? So many billion people in the world don't know either or even neither, and yet, here I am, born with the ability to know both, to be able to surround myself with people who speak and use both languages, but yet I don't treasure them. What have I been doing for the past 15 or so years of my life? My PSLE Chinese was an "A", and now I'm merely scraping past a "C". Have I wasted my education? Natalie memorised 10 idioms. Me? Slacking. Slacking.

O Levels means 4 months more hard work = School I want to go to = Job I want = Future I want
as compared to
O Levels means 4 months more slacking = School I don't want to go to = Job I despise = Future ruined.

If you were me too, which one would you choose? And this does not only apply to Chinese. All my other subjects are equally important. Where am I heading?

Mr Yap talked to my class last week, and it gave me a wake-up call. He made me realise that out of so many people in Singapore who want the same school, job and future as me, what would make me stand out if I continue this way? Nothing. A pathetic piece of nothing.

*back to today's lessons*

Continuing from where I left off, Maths was pretty relaxed after all that rushing for time to finish both textbook homework and worksheet homework. Mrs Lee went through a newspaper comic (yesterday's Foxtrot comic) and article (English lesson? Haha.) about elite school stereotypes and neighbourhood school stereotypes. I think people subconsciously develop particular mindsets about this or that person, like if I told you someone was a nerd (no offence), you would probably think big glasses and burying in books all the time. Isn't that true? You know yourself. It's sad that people stereotype but hey, I hate to say this but that's life. Take Susan Boyle, for example. She's so brave to sing her best even when people make fun of her. She's also humble and cute! xD Ok moving on.. History was 40 minutes of massaging classmates, re-arranging 4 pairs of students' seating arrangement and debating with Mrs Hua about school rules and how they affect our studies. Don't wanna go into detail because this happens almost every time and I am sick of it. Last but not least, Social Studies was free period with Clarissa and Nat doing a bit of source-based questions. Nothing much.

I shall end of with the a video of the amazing one-half of the Singaporean twin boys who made it into VIENNA BOYS CHOIR! They invited Nigel (the one in the video) and his twin brother to audition there (do you know how hard it is to even apply? They INVITED HIM!! So privileged!) when their eldest sister posted this video on YouTube then put a link on their official website's (http://www.wsk.at/) guestbook and asked them to watch him sing. They're ten-year old boys, mind you, and they like classical music. WHERE CAN YOU FIND BOYS WHO LIKE CLASSICAL MUSIC AT THAT AGE?! Anyway I'll let you watch in peace. Ciao!

-------------------------------------------------------

P/S. I am not a paedophile, people! xD Esp. to a few of my friends. =P

If you want to be happy in life but you spend time worrying about being happy, are you still happy?

We got bronze. Not unexpected, but yet some people who didn't put in a lot of effort cried. I heard that schools that got Gold with Honours practiced everyday of their own accord. 3 practices a week only and we complain. Who should be crying anyway?

I'm thinking of setting up a YouTube account that features home-made short films. My sisters and mom are in. I should consult Longxiang and Rizuan about this. Anyone?

I'm improving a little in Taekwondo, though not yet my sister or Weijie's standard yet, obviously. I need to memorise Kuro (?) Poomsae. JIAYOU! Tomorrow is Grading and we're hosting so Sir Nordon told seniors to go and help. Will be there the whole morning. Hope I can set aside some time for F&N. 3 pages of Decision Making + 15 pages of R&D. CHIONG AH!

I'm downloading my favourite movie soundtracks a bulk at a time. So far I have August's Rhapsody, Let The Right One In, Oliver Twist, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and a few more I can't remember. I know they're stored in my computer but I'm lazy to check. :P Any to recommend me? I'm looking for classical, mostly, in case you can't tell.

I still can't believe 4E4 is bonded in a weird way. It always comes up with something outrageous to make me laugh. The other time someone wrote "Literature rocks - thanks to Mrs Cheong" then Mr Alwi walked past and then he said "Literature rocks" to her when she was on the way to our classroom. Lol.

Brb, going for singing class!
